03. Understand the terms

The terms you will see
in every proposal.

A short glossary of the UK schemes, standards and finance terms you will meet in a solar, battery or EV charging proposal.

MCS

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme. Every Synergy Power installation is certified to MCS, which is what makes a system eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee.

Smart Export Guarantee

Payments from an SEG-licensed electricity supplier for the electricity you export to the grid. Each supplier sets its own rates, and smaller installations need MCS certification to qualify.

DNO and G99

Your Distribution Network Operator runs the local grid. Small systems are usually notified under G98 after connection; larger systems need G99 approval before connection. We handle the paperwork.

Part L, SAP & SBEM

The Building Regulations energy standard, and the methods used to assess dwellings (SAP) and non-domestic buildings (SBEM). Mainly relevant to property developers.

Capex, lease & PPA

Three ways to pay for a commercial system: buy it outright, lease it, or buy the electricity under a third-party power purchase agreement.
