01. Who this page is for

Daytime demand,
big, simple roofs.

This page is for headteachers, business managers, trust estates teams and college and university estates directors. Schools and colleges are often well suited to solar. They have large, simply shaped roofs, daytime occupancy that matches generation, and a long-term commitment to the site.

They also come with their own rules. Work has to fit around term dates and exams, staff on site need the right checks, safeguarding shapes access and welfare, and budgets often depend on grant programmes with fixed windows. We plan every education project around all of this, from a single primary school roof to a multi-academy trust portfolio.

The system becomes a teaching resource too. Monitoring displays in reception or the science corridor show pupils what the roof is generating, and the data supports curriculum work and the school’s carbon plan.

02. What we deliver

What we install
for education sites.

Rooftop solar

Solar PV on pitched, flat and metal roofs, sized to the daytime load of classrooms, kitchens and IT.

Battery storage

Store lunchtime generation for late-afternoon demand, evening lettings and holiday periods, and add resilience for critical systems.

EV charging

Staff and minibus charging, with load management that keeps you within the existing supply.

Monitoring & displays

Live data for the estates team, a display for pupils and reporting for the trust's carbon plan.

07. Education FAQs

Questions schools and trusts
often ask us.

Still have a question?0330 043 1047
When would the work take place?

Wherever possible in the holidays and quiet periods. We agree dates with the school in advance and plan around exams.

Are your staff DBS-checked?

Yes, where the school requires it. Every member of staff has a site induction, and we agree welfare and access arrangements with you.

What funding is available for schools?

Programmes for education change from year to year, so we do not promise specific grants. Our Funding Hub explains the routes, and your feasibility study provides the figures an application needs.

Can pupils see the system working?

Yes. Monitoring displays show live generation, and the data can support science, geography and eco-council work.

Can you cover a whole trust?

Yes. We survey the portfolio, prioritise sites by return and phase the programme with consistent reporting across every school.

Do we need planning permission?

Many rooftop systems on non-domestic buildings can be installed under permitted development, subject to conditions. Listed buildings, conservation areas, ground-mounted systems and solar carports may need consent. We check at survey and prepare the drawings for any application.

What happens to generation during the holidays?

Surplus electricity is exported to the grid. With an MCS-certified installation you can apply for Smart Export Guarantee payments from an SEG licensee, and rates vary by supplier. Your feasibility study models holiday periods, and battery storage can hold some generation for later use.

generation.
