Peak shaving
The battery discharges at your highest-demand periods, trimming the peaks that drive capacity and time-of-use charges and keeping you within your agreed supply capacity.
Commercial battery systems that store daytime generation, discharge during your most expensive hours and keep critical loads running. Peak shaving, resilience and flexibility income, integrated with new or existing solar.
Written for finance directors, energy managers and facilities teams at sites with significant electricity demand and a bill that spikes: manufacturers, cold stores, warehouses, data-heavy offices and multi-tenant estates. A commercial battery can do four jobs, and the design decides how much value you get from each.
It shaves peaks by discharging when your demand, and your tariff, are highest. It shifts consumption by charging when electricity is cheap and releasing it when it isn’t. It keeps critical loads running through an interruption. And through a flexibility platform such as Axle Energy, it can earn income by supporting the grid at times of stress.
We model your consumption data to size the battery and choose the control strategy. Then we integrate it with new or existing solar, handle the grid application, install around your operations and maintain it for the life of the asset.

Charge from solar or from cheap off-peak periods and discharge when import prices are high. Smart tariffs such as Octopus Agile widen the gap.
Explore Octopus AgileKeep critical loads running through a supply interruption, from IT and security to refrigeration and process lines, with the system designed around what must stay on.
Through Axle Energy, your battery can be dispatched to support the grid at times of stress, and you are paid for it while keeping control of the asset.
Explore Axle EnergyWe base battery size and control strategy on your own half-hourly consumption, not a standard cabinet size.
Estimated size · savings · indicative ROIWe design storage, solar, the site supply and any EV charging as one system, and handle the DNO application.
New or existing solarRAMS-led delivery sequenced around your operating hours and access.
Operational continuityMonitoring, planned maintenance and fault response keep the battery available and performing.
Operations & maintenanceWe turn your consumption data and bills into an estimated battery size, savings forecast, carbon reduction estimate and indicative ROI.
No obligationOur engineers assess the location, electrical infrastructure, critical loads and grid application, then design the system.
In-house engineersA business case covering peak shaving, tariff savings, resilience and any flexibility income, with finance routes.
Business caseBattery, controls and integration installed around your operations and commissioned with the solar and site supply.
Around operationsWe set the control strategy, switch on monitoring and put a maintenance plan in place for the life of the asset.
Asset managementShare your consumption data and bills. A UK engineer will model the battery size, control strategy and the savings and income it could deliver.
No. A battery can charge from cheap off-peak electricity and discharge at peak times without solar. Solar makes the case stronger, and we can add it later.
It depends on the size and timing of your peaks, your tariff and what you want it to do. We size it from your half-hourly data rather than a standard cabinet size.
We can design the system to back up selected critical loads. Tell us what must stay on and we'll design around it.
Platforms such as Axle Energy dispatch your battery to support the grid at times of stress and pay you for it, while you keep control of the asset and your choice of supplier.
It can. Peak shaving discharges the battery during your highest-demand periods, reducing the peaks behind capacity and time-of-use charges. How much it saves depends on the size and timing of your peaks and your tariff, which we model from your half-hourly data in the feasibility study.
Usually, yes. Batteries and inverters above the G98 limits need a G99 application approved by your Distribution Network Operator before connection, and an export limitation scheme (G100) can help where network capacity is constrained. We prepare and manage the application.
Our operations and maintenance team monitors the system, carries out planned maintenance and responds to faults, so the battery stays available for the jobs it was designed to do.
Commercial installations are subject to VAT at 20%, which VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim. Your accountant should confirm how it applies to your organisation.
Yes. We survey the existing solar and electrical infrastructure and integrate storage with it, whoever installed it.
